Illinois EV Charger Tax Credit 2026: Federal Section 30C + State Incentives

How to combine the federal Section 30C credit with Illinois state and utility programs — and check your address eligibility before the June 30 deadline.

The Federal Section 30C Credit (Brief)

The Section 30C Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit refunds 30% of your home EV charger equipment and installation cost, up to $1,000. To qualify, the property must sit in an eligible census tract — IRS-defined low-income or non-urban tracts under the 2020 census — and the charger must be placed in service by June 30, 2026. Renters do not qualify. Read the full Section 30C guide for filing details, qualifying costs, and Form 8911 instructions.

Illinois-Specific Incentives

Illinois residents can combine the federal Section 30C credit with ComEd’s EV Charging Rebate, which offers up to $500 for residential Level 2 charger installation. The ComEd program is available to residential customers in ComEd’s service territory. Ameren Illinois offers a separate rebate up to $200 for customers in its territory. Both utility rebates can be combined with the federal Section 30C credit.
